BlizzCon 2022 scheduled to take place in February, and WOW WOTLK Classic Gold was planned to be mostly a virtual event, with smaller gatherings in person, was cancelled. The decision was made in the midst of ongoing lawsuits and investigations that allege widespread sexual harassment and discrimination within Activision Blizzard.
Blizzard announces that the energy usually put into putting on the annual convention will focus on "supporting our teams and further on the evolution of our games and experiences." Without BlizzCon in the coming year, Blizzard will also be taking the time to "reimagine" what the convention could be like.
"The first BlizzCon was held just 16 years ago. A lot has changed in the time since then, including the many ways in which players and communities can join together and feel as if they are connected to something larger," Blizzard's statement reads. "Whatever the venue will be in the future it is important to ensure that it's as comfortable, safe, and inclusive as we can."
Updates and news about new games are typically announced at each year's BlizzCon and, although there won't be BlizzCon 2022 but there will be news about that in the coming months.
"We have many exciting news and announcements coming up to share with you," Blizzard's statement reads. "You'll continue hearing about those through our franchise channels, thanks to the skilled members of the BlizzCon team playing a part in helping us achieve these goals."
Blizzard is currently in production on World of Warcraft , World of Warcraft , and possibly, the next World of Warcraft expansion buy WOTLK Gold . None of the titles listed above has an officially announced release date.
